| DOOR CONFIGURATIONS

| General
|
Passenger Boeing 757-200 aircraft have one of two door configurations, based on the choice of the airline which first ordered the aircraft. The first configuration is a "Four Door Aircraft", the second is an "Overwing Exit Aircraft".
The difference between these options is the maximum certified seating capacity of the aircraft, which is higher for the "Four Door Aircraft" at 239 passengers (FAA Limit). The "Overwing Exit Aircraft" has a maximum certified seating capacity of 224 passengers (FAA Limit). It should be noted that the actual limit for maximum seating capacity is set by the national regulator and may differ from country to country (e.g. United Kingdom maximum seating capacity for "Four Door Aircraft" is 235 passengers).
The Boeing 757-300 has only one possible door configuration.
The specific configurations are described below.

| 757-200 - Four Door Aircraft
|
The first Boeing 757-200 configuration is a "Four Door Aircraft".
This layout features 4 main floor-level doors on each side of the fuselage, two ahead of the wing and two behind the wing. The first (L / R FWD ENT DOOR), second (L / R CTR ENT DOOR) and fourth (L / R AFT ENT DOOR) door pairs in this configuration are available for normal passenger embarkation / disembarkation (also referred to as "Passenger Doors").
The third door pair (L / R EMER DOOR) in this configuration (those immediately behind the wing) are for use in emergencies only (also known as "Emergency Exit Doors"). The emergency escape slides are always armed at the L / R EMER DOOR doors.

| 757-200 - Overwing Exit Aircraft
|
The second door configuration is an "Overwing Exit Aircraft" layout.
This layout features 3 main floor-level doors on each side of the fuselage, two ahead of the wing and one at the aft fuselage, and two overwing emergency exits on both sides of the aircraft. The first (L / R FWD ENT DOOR), second (L / R CTR ENT DOOR) and fourth (L / R AFT ENT DOOR) door pairs in this configuration are available for normal passenger embarkation / disembarkation (also referred to as "Passenger Doors").
The two overwing exits on each side of the aircraft (L / R FWD and AFT EMER DOOR) are for use in emergencies only (also known as "Overwing Emergency Exit Doors").

| 757-300 - All Models
|
The Boeing 757-300, which was only ever built in a passenger version, has only one door configuration. This is illustrated in the diagram on the right.
There are four main floor-level doors on each side of the fuselage, two ahead of the wing and two behind the wing, and additionally two overwing emergency exits on both sides of the aircraft.
The first (L / R FWD ENT DOOR), second (L / R CTR ENT DOOR) and fourth (L / R AFT ENT DOOR) main door pairs in this configuration are available for normal passenger embarkation / disembarkation (also referred to as "Passenger Doors").
The third door pair (L / R EMER DOOR) in this configuration (those immediately behind the wing) are for use in emergencies only (also known as "Emergency Exit Doors"). The emergency escape slides are always armed at the L / R EMER DOOR doors.

| OPERATION OF DOORS
|
| General
|
There are three passenger door types on the Boeing 757, the Passenger Door, Emergency Door and Overwing Emergency Door.
The specifications and operation of these door types are described below.

| 757 Passenger Door
|
The main passenger door on the Boeing 757 is opened by moving the door operating handle in the direction of the arrow. To close the door, the handle is moved in the opposite direction to the arrow.
The passenger door is fitted with a viewing window, allowing observation outside the aircraft.
The slide light, to the left of the EXIT sign at the top of the door, indicates the slide is armed (when illuminated amber). A single lane pneumatic escape slide, stored in the stowage bustle of the door itself, will inflate automatically when the door is opened, provided the slide is armed.
Note that some aircraft have a double lane slide fitted at the L / R CTR ENT DOOR which may also double as a detachable raft.

| 757 Emergency Door
|
The emergency door is fitted with a viewing window, allowing observation outside the aircraft.
The door operating handle, on the right of the door, opens the exit and deploys the emergency escape slide when pulled.
A single lane pneumatic escape slide, stored in the stowage bustle of the door itself, will inflate automatically when the door is opened from inside or outside the aircraft. The escape slides are always armed on these doors.

| 757 Overwing Emergency Door
|
In order to open an Overwing Emergency Door, the cover must first be removed to access the emergency handle (marked "PULL").
Pulling the handle opens the door and deploys the emergency wing slides.
The door assist handle, below the window, can be used to assist in removing the door from the opening.
An alternate slide deployment handle is accessible once the door is opened which manually deploys the evacuation slide in the event that the normal system fails.

| EMERGENCY ESCAPE SLIDE
|
| General
|
Emergency evacuation slide and pneumatic door opening systems are provided for each passenger entry door. Each door system has enough power to open the door unassisted, even if the airplane is not level because of any landing gear collapse
condition. A slide bustle in the lower face of the door contains the slide.
For normal operations, the slide must be disarmed before opening the door. Moving the mode select lever to DETACH causes the slide girt bar to detach from the floor, the SLIDE light to extinguish, the mechanical SLIDE ENGAGED warning placard to retract. When the door is disarmed the spring-loaded DETACH
placard will rotate down into view.
The emergency door opening system and the slide are automatically disarmed when the door is opened from the outside. If the mode select lever is in the ENGAGE position and the door is opened using the exterior door handle, the mode select lever automatically moves to DETACH and the door opens without slide deployment.

| 757 Passenger Door Escape Slide
|
Once armed, moving the interior door operating handle to the open position unlocks the door and moves it inside to the cocked position. The door can then be pushed out through the door frame. The first outward movement of the door activates the emergency door opening system, which drives the door open, and the slide automatically deploys and inflates.
A manual inflation handle can be pulled if the slide has not automatically inflated.
