Boeing 787 'Dreamliner'
As the Boeing 757 program drew to a close in late 2003, the Boeing board of dierctors granted authority to offer the latest Boeing airliner the 787 'Dreamliner' for sale. Originally dubbed the '7E7', the aircraft will serve as a replacement for the Boeing 757/767 aircraft family, in direct competition with the Airbus A330 / A340 / A350 family of jets.
Seating between 223 and 259 passengers in a typical 3 class layout, the 787-8 and -9 will fly routes in excess of 8,000nm, while a higher capacity variant the 787-3 will fly around 300 passengers in a typical 2 class configuration on flights of around 3,500nm.
The aircraft is broadly similar in size to the Boeing 767-300 and -400 variants, and firm orders had been placed for over 180 aircraft already by mid 2005, from airlines including All Nippon Airways, Northwest Airlines, Continental Airlines and British carrier First Choice Airways. Production will begin in 2006, with the first flight in 2007 followed by certification, delivery and entry into service occurring in 2008.
